Take part in a Southern Illinois legacy that impacted the Nation — the “Herrin Massacre” of June 22, 1922. This tour will include stops of notable significance in two counties and three communities, including Carbondale, Herrin and Marion. Stops include Williamson County Historical Museum, Herrin Area Historical Society’s Miner’s Memorial Wall, and Station Carbondale, Inc. at the Historic Train Depot. Guides will provide expert site interpretation. Available as a field trip for schools or group tour for organizations. Refreshments and lunch included in the cost. Light walking. The tour departs from the Williamson County Historical Museum (105 S Van Buren, Marion, Illinois) at 9:00AM, the day of the tour. It will conclude at the pick up location.
